Tufts Medical Center Community Care North

Woburn, MA

Tufts Medical Center is an internationally-respected academic medical center – a teaching hospital where they pride themselves not only in the sophistication of the care they provide but the compassionate way in which they provide it. They care for all patients from newborns at their full-service pediatric hospital, Floating Hospital for Children to centenarians in their specialized Geriatrics clinic. Avid Engineers designed Tufts fit-out of a primary care physician’s office located in Woburn, MA. The office fit-out resides on the third floor of an existing 3-story office building. The space existing infrastructure was utilized by Avid Engineer’s in their design of the new physician space.

Emerson Hospital

Concord, MA

Emerson Hospital is a hospital located in Concord, MA at 133 Old Road. The hospital was founded in 1911 on land donated by Ralph Waldo Emerson’s nephew, Charles Emerson. Emerson Hospital is a full-service, non-profit community hospital and medical care center. Avid Engineers designed renovations to the building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems for a renovated medical office space, containing several exam rooms, doctor’s offices and patient waiting areas.

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital

Boston, MA

MEP/FP design services for a full renovation of the existing Emergency Department at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. The renovation included a new dedicated air handling unit to serve the emergency department with redundant components to allow the unit to operate in the event of equipment failure or maintenance. The new emergency department included a fully contained decontamination room, negative air rooms, and patient rooms with the ability to covert to psychiatric patient rooms. One of the key elements of the MEP/FP design of this project was that it would be constructed in phases while the emergency department was still occupied and active.

Health Express

Braintree, MA | Kingston, RI | West Roxbury, MA

Health Express is a full-service urgent care facility. Their physicians treat a wide range of issues from small injuries, to more severe problems like fractures and lacerations. They have offices located throughout eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Avid Engineers have worked on renovations to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems for several of the Health Express locations. The renovations at each of these locations is primarily exam rooms, doctor’s offices and patient waiting areas.

Lowell General Hospital

Lowell, MA

Lowell General Hospital is a community hospital serving the Greater Lowell area and surrounding communities. Lowell General Hospital offers the latest state-of-the-art technology and a full range of medical and surgical services for patients, from newborns to seniors. Avid Engineers was involved in the effort to provide Lowell General Hospital with as-built mechanical drawings for their facility following renovations made to their office space. This effort included the survey of the site and its existing conditions, as well as the follow up and completion of accurate drawings for these recorded conditions. The scope included the crawl space areas, ground floor and roof.

Yale University’s School of Medicine

Orange, CT

MEP/FP design services for a new reproductive endocrinology and infertility clinic for Yale University’s School of Medicine at 200 West Campus Drive in Orange, Connecticut. This new 20,000 SF fertility clinic consisted of consultation rooms, specimen collection and blood draw rooms, two labs, two procedure rooms, medical gas storage and a cryogenic storage room utilizing liquid nitrogen. For this project a new dedicated air handling unit was provided to serve the procedure rooms and lab spaces. In addition the buildings boiler plant was upgraded to handle the increased demand. An exterior mounted liquid nitrogen tank along with medical gas piping was designed to support the procedure rooms and labs. To insure that there would be no disruption in service to the procedure rooms, labs and cryogenic storage space a new emergency electrical generator was provided.

Rainbow Healthcare

Bedford, MA

Rainbow Adult Day Health Care Centers provide high quality medical, rehabilitative, therapeutic, and social services for older adults and individuals with Alzheimer’s and other specialty needs. Avid Engineers was responsible for renovations to their 20,000-SF healthcare center, Rainbow healthcare located in Bedford, MA. Avid Engineers was responsible for the electrical and plumbing system design as part of an effort to renovate existing tenant health care space. The new space included all new lighting and plumbing fixtures and associated components.

SEMC Behavioral Health

Haverhill, MA

St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, a teaching hospital of Tufts University School of Medicine, provides patients and families access to some of Boston’s most respected physicians and advanced treatments offering specialized care. The project scope consists of a renovation to an existing Nurses Station. This scope also entails enclosing the nurses’ station with a storefront and full height doors. The MEP-FP scope entails addition of a notification appliance to accommodate the architectural program. This new device is essential for life safety and is tied back into the existing fire alarm system.

St. Luke’s Hospital

New Bedford, MA

MEP/FP design services for a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Southcoast Health’s St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, Massachusetts. The project consisted of a complete renovation of an existing patient room floor to a new 20,000 SF, $14M, 16 bed intensive care unit. For this renovation a new dedicated air handling unit was provided along with circadian lighting for improved patient care. The project was designed to anticipate construction taking place with active hospital floors above and below the new ICU floor. As part of this project the hospital’s emergency generator power capacity was increased by providing a new emergency generator and new larger fuel storage capacity for increased runtime.

Yale New Haven Health’s Regional Operations Center

New Haven, CT

MEP engineering services for Yale New Haven Health’s new Regional Operations Center. Yale New Haven Health System is Connecticut’s largest healthcare system with more than 2,000 patient beds and includes hospitals, physicians, and related health services throughout Connecticut and into New York and Rhode Island. This new 135,000 SF, $35M facility will act as the central distribution center for all medical supplies serving all of their facilities. The facility includes high bay storage of medical supplies and can accommodate 22 eighteen-wheeler delivery trucks at a time. The building is also home to the networks linen operations, clinical engineering, and a 15,000 SF compounding pharmacy. The building was designed to operate 24/7 and to operate fully during natural disasters, it is equipped with a 2MW electrical generator which provides backup power to the entire facility. The compounding pharmacy is equipped with fully redundant air handling units and exhaust fans to ensure pharmacy operations can continue during equipment failure or routine maintenance.

Yale New Haven Health

New Haven, CT

MEP/FP engineering design services for a complete renovation of Yale New Haven Health’s facility at 150 Sargent Drive in New Haven, Connecticut. The facility will be occupied by radiology, blood draw, pediatrics, and women’s health departments. This project included a masterplan and design of all new HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems to serve the 70,000 SF building. One of the key challenges to this design was that construction would be done in phases, as not all existing tenants would be moving out of the building at the same time. This facility utilizes a vacuum waste system which allows for overhead distribution of plumbing sanitary piping allowing the structural slab to remain in place.

Steward Medical

Norwood, MA

Steward Medical Group is part of the Steward Health Care System, a community-based accountable care organization and community hospital network serving more than one million patients annually in 85 communities. Avid Engineers has completed numerous projects for the Steward Medical Group including a series of urgent-care outpatient doctor’s offices through out Massachusetts.

St. Vincent’s Outpatient Center

Northborough, MA

Saint Vincent Medical Group is comprised of primary care physicians and specialists dedicated to keeping families healthy while letting you stay close to home. Saint Vincent’s has locations all over Central Massachusetts, all backed by the resources of Saint Vincent Hospital. Avid Engineers was requested by Saint Vincent’s to provide the design for the mechanical, electrical and fire alarm, plumbing and fire protection systems at their Northborough location. The project was a 10,000-SF fit out of a non-invasive, outpatient care center.

VA Community Care Center

West Haven, CT

MEP/FP engineering design services for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) new Community Care Center in West Haven, Connecticut. This new 60,000 SF building focuses primarily on providing mental health, group therapy, and primary care services to veterans. The center serves as a central place for veterans in the community to come, socialize, exercise, and receive career skills training and meals if needed.

Riverside Community Healthcare

Wakefield, MA

Riverside Community Care provides mental health care, developmental & cognitive disabilities services, addiction treatment & early childhood services out of their offices in Wakefield, MA. Riverside Community Care created a project to make renovations to their spaces. Avid Engineers was mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protections system design of the new space. The new space included all new mechanical registers, lighting and plumbing fixtures and associated components.
