Coresite

Somerville, MA

CoreSite is a data center company that borders Boston’s central business district. They serve many healthcare, financial, technological, and educational enterprises located within the Boston area. For the past 10 years, Avid has reviewed, maintained, and systematically built-out CoreSite’s data center location on Innerbelt Drive in Somerville. Over that time, Avid has designed nearly all of the site’s 250,000-SF of high density, computer intensive space in areas that range from cabinets and cages to private suites and built-to-suit options. This building is complete with in-rack cooling, lightning protection, highly redundant chilled water distribution systems, complete UPS backup, generator capacity, raised access flooring, pre-action fire protection systems, and shunt trips for emergency shutdowns.

Arris

Lowell, MA

ARRIS is a manufacturer of equipment and an innovator in the field of IP, Video, and Broadband Technology. This 200,000-sf project included a multi-phased repositioning of server, laboratory and office administrative spaces throughout three Crosspoint office towers in Lowell MA. After being selected by Jones Lang LaSalle, Avid worked closely with ARRIS personnel, as well as with the construction team, to sequence the work to minimize disruption to functioning labs. In all, nearly 50,000-sf of software laboratories and server rooms were provided with new Computer Room Air Condition (CRAC) units which utilize the building’s chilled water system to maintain a hot and cold aisle arrangement throughout the space.

Park Place Technologies

Westborough, MA

Park Place Technologies is a third-party partner of IT data equipment with 58,000 data centers and services in more than 150 countries. Avid Engineers is the engineer of record for PPT’s Westborough, MA location. PPT’s renovation consisted of 43,000-SF of office space, a 16,000-SF warehouse area equipped with shipping and receiving, and a 10,000-SF Testing and Engineering area for data center applications. The customized alterations include demand-oriented MEP/FP system designs such as a double-interlock, pre-action fire protection systems, DX-cooling CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning) units, electrical service upgrades, as well as incorporating the addition of standby generator backups. These systems are designed to meet client expectations while considering challenges associated with existing building infrastructure limitations.

Pfizer

Andover, MA

PFIZER’s Andover home contains state-of-the-art R&D facilities, combined with flexible multi-product manufacturing. Avid Engineers was engaged to evaluate the condition of Pfizer’s various server rooms, and, on acceptance, to implement those improvements to secure the reliability of Pfizer’s mission critical operations. Avid provided complete MEP-FP services from programming through construction administration. Improvements included the implementation of power distribution equipment, uninterruptible power supplies, and both pre-action fire protection and clean agent fire suppression systems serving multiple, server rooms throughout multiple buildings n Pfizer’s Andover campus.

UMass Lowell

Lowell, MA

Umass Lowell is a national research university located in the heart of Lowell, MA. When Avid Engineers was engaged to renovate the main server room, it was critical that continuity of campus operations were maintained. Project design elements included raised access flooring, clean agent fire suppression systems, space refrigeration testing, and dedicated redundant mission critical cooling. The customized alterations include demand-oriented MEP/FP system designs such as a double-interlock, pre-action fire protection system, DX-cooling CRAC (Computer Room Air Conditioning) units and electrical service upgrades, as well as incorporating the addition of standby generator backup. These systems are designed to meet client expectations while considering challenges associated with existing building infrastructure limitations.

Digital Realty

Billerica, MA

Digital Realty supports the data center, colocation and interconnection strategies of customers across the world. Ranging from cloud and information technology services, communications and social networking, to financial services, manufacturing, energy, healthcare and consumer products. Avid Engineers was responsible in the evaluation and design of multiple projects at Digital Realty’s Billerica location. Avid worked closely with Digital Realty to insure that mission critical systems maintained their integrity without interrupting mission critical operations during implementation of design improvements. These design improvements included: in-rack cooling, lightening protection, highly redundant chilled water distribution systems, complete UPS backup, generator capacity, raised access flooring, pre-action fire protection systems, and shunt trips for emergency shutdowns.

Savvis

Waltham, MA

Savvis communications corp. is an information technology consultant with 2,500 unique business and government customers. The company sells managed hosting and colocation services with more than 50 data centers in North America, Europe, and Asia with automated management and provisioning systems, and information technology consulting. Avid has worked with Savvis at their Waltham location to provide redundancy improvements throughout existing computer rooms. Tasks included the evaluation of several systems, and system types resulting in the replacement and improvement of several systems to enhance reliability. As part of this project, four rooftop units were replaced for Savvis and the associated ductwork was reconfigured to promote the redundancy of the system.

Flir Systems

North Billerica, MA

FLIR Systems is the world's largest commercial company specializing in the design and production of thermal imaging cameras, components, and imaging sensors. They design, develop, manufacture, market, and distribute technologies that serve multiple applications in government & defense, industrial, and commercial markets. Avid provided enhanced redundancy through the implementation of redundant systems by removing an existing split system and providing a new Carrier air handling unit and associated system. A new 10 ton unit was installed on the roof and was fed from the existing generator. Avid worked closely with FLIR to coordinate the demolition of the existing cooling system and phasing of the new system.

Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union

Lowell, MA

Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union is the third oldest credit union in the United States and the second oldest in Massachusetts. They provide financial products and services for their members to manage their finances. Avid Engineers designed Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union’s mission critical server room responsible for continuity of national bank operations. The system design for the 45,000-SF building was primarily comprised of the mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems. These upgrades included: in-rack cooling, lightening protection, highly redundant chilled water distribution systems, complete UPS backup, generator capacity, raised access flooring, pre-action fire protection systems, and shunt trips for emergency shutdowns.
