The Danielle N. Ripich Commons was named in honor of UNE’s recently outgoing president. As her namesake legacy, this twenty million dollar, multi-purpose building was intended to serve as the centerpiece of the campus, supporting the everyday needs of residential, commuter, and graduate students.

The 100,000-SF 3-story building includes a dining hall, study areas, relaxation spaces, a fire pit, outdoor patios, and a one-stop shopping venue for student services. From academic advising to career services and financial aid – the Danielle N. Ripich Commons also houses the campus’ main dining venue with views of the Saco River as well as a pub-style eatery with outdoor seating. The 2nd floor of the building connects to the main floor of the campus’s library by a glass bridge, creating easy transitions from the academic core of the campus to the Commons and the residence halls.

MEP-FP systems include a number of ultra-high efficiency / eco-friendly features as well as complete generator backup for the entire building.

The lighting design is a recipient of an Illuminating Engineering Society 2019 Illumination Award for Lighting Control Innovation.
